Lighting makes or breaks interior architecture. Relying on a single center ceiling fixture (often called the “big light”) casts unflattering shadows and drains coziness from living spaces.
The Three Layers of Lighting
- Layer 1: Ambient Lighting. Soft, diffused background illumination (recessed architectural spots or shaded chandeliers).
- Layer 2: Task Lighting. Directional light aimed at work zones (countertop under-cabinet LEDs or reading swing-arms).
- Layer 3: Accent Lighting. Visual highlights aimed at artwork, plant foliage, or open shelving.
